Football, despite all the blood and guts that are spent on the pitch, all the partisan rivalry that divides us and all the contention an individual holds against another, can often be a uniting factor that brings together everyone involved with the sport to support one noble cause.

One such heart warming occasion came almost a month ago on the 17th of January, when Celtic F.C. beat Hamilton Academical by two goals to nil in a Scottish Premier League match at New Douglas Park. During the half time interval, one special Celtic fan by the name of Jay Beatty, who is unfortunately suffering from Down Syndrome got the gift of a lifetime as he was allowed to play on the pitch and score a penalty in front of the whole stadium. The 11 year old is a diehard Celtic fan and his support of the Hoops has been widely acknowledged by the club themselves who rewarded him for his support with this wonderful opportunity to play on the same pitch as his idols. That’s not where it ends however as the young man has now won hundreds of thousands of hearts which lead his goal to being shortlisted for the Scottish Premier League Goal of the Month for January. You can cast your vote in favour of Jay by typing “Goal J” in the comments section of this link.

Check out the video below for an extended clip of the young fan enjoying his kickabout on the Hamilton pitch.
