Manchester United played Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup at the Philip II Arena in Skopje, Macedonia last night. All the talk before the game was of Jose Mourinho coming up against his old team, Cristiano Ronaldo coming up against his old team, as well as, would Gareth Bale play with all the transfers rumours?
However, after the game in Skopje, the capital and largest city of the Republic of Macedonia all the talk was of a picture of Marouane Fellaini. United lost the game to Real Madrid 2-1 after pretty much getting outplayed for the whole of the game. Goals from Casemiro on 24 minutes and Isco on 52 minutes gave the Spanish team the upper hand before Romelu Lukaku pulled one back on 62 minutes for the team from Manchester.
In front of around 30,000 fans inside the stadium and millions watching around the world the game was played out in good spirit but the funny side came at the end when this picture emerged.
Fellaini actually helped change the game slightly when he came off the bench for Ander Herrera ten minutes into the second half. Madrid had been dominant and through Isco scored the second goal early into the second half. Fellaini came on and seemed to get United back into the game with his ability in the air and hold up play. It was something they needed but in the end it wasn’t enough as the UEFA Champions League winners Madrid won the Super Cup for a second year running and for the third time in four years.
