Italian football had been marred by numerous cases of corruption and match-fixing in the not too distant past and it seems like the country has finally set their sights on making a positive contribution to the game. The Serie B, the second tier in the Italian footballing pyramid has decided to introduce a never-before-seen, green card. While the yellow and the red cards are used to reprimand players who have committed fouls, the green card would be used to praise players who have done noble acts.
According to Italian football officials, the green card would be shown to players who have displayed “acts of virtue” or other sportsman like actions. This new system has been successfully tested in the Italian youth leagues and a strong showing at the Serie B would make it a system to be followed by football governing bodies from all over the world.
